Cali* came to the United States about 6 years before becoming a client of AA-Careers. In her native country she worked hard to get M.S. & B.S. degrees in Computer Science. She came to the U.S. because her young daughter needed continual medical care that wasn't available in her native country. She also felt that as a woman, her career would have much more potential in the U.S. In the 5 + years she was here, even though she felt she had tried very hard to obtain a regular job, she was only able to obtain contract work thru an agency. Her longest assignment had been for 6 months. Plus, her average earnings for the 5 years was just $43K. Job Hunting Campaign Duration: 3 months
After trying for all those years, she had decided to try one more time before packing up and returning home with her daughter. Cali saw an ad in the paper for a career fair, and one of the companies their she had worked for on a 3 month contract was listed in the ad. At the fair she met with someone at their booth, they spent 5 minutes with her, took her resume (again), and said they would review it. On her way out she saw the AA-Careers booth, and decided to try the free resume critique. Her resume was a mess. For example each contract job was listed separately, and that took up a whole page. We gave her some guidance on what to do, starting with re-prioritizing several things and removing unnecessary information. We told her if she didn't have a job in 30 days to give us a call. Cali became a client in late November, and got Frank Woodeshick a 12-year AA-Careers veteran, as her career consultant. Cali took a vacation home for the holidays and was gone for two weeks in December. On February 21st she accepted a full time position as a System Analyst with a major bank, at $108K. In her Marketing Campaign Completion form she says, "Frank has been just the greatest", "he was very patient with me in the interviewing practices", and "very helpful in developing my resume that highlighted my accomplishments". A few weeks after starting the job, Cali sent us a thank you letter, which started with "I want to express my gratitude for all the help and support I received from the staff". She recalled the day she met us at the Career fair in Santa Clara, and all about what had happened that day. She said "everything you told me was so true", "for the first time I felt I had someone on my side, I had dealt with agencies and recruiters for over 5 years and realized that they were compensated by the companies and weren't really on my side." Joining AACareers was a decision that I have never regretted, I would do it again in a New York minute"Can AA-Careers help you with your new Software job? Contact us and get started ! |
